The incretin landscape, explained

GLP-1, GIP, glucagon, amylin — a plain-language map of the receptor pathways behind the headlines.

11 min read

Incretin research moved from a niche corner of endocrinology to the center of metabolic science in under a decade. The vocabulary has not kept pace with the attention.

GLP-1 receptor agonists were the first wave. Dual agonists added GIP. Triple agonists added glucagon receptor activity, which shifts the profile again.

Amylin analogues sit adjacent to this family rather than inside it, acting through a separate receptor complex, which is why they appear so often in combination research.

Reading any single study in isolation tends to overstate its conclusion. The value is in the shape of the literature, not in one abstract.
