Reconstitution without the guesswork

Sterile technique, solvent selection, and how to keep a lyophilized vial stable after it opens.

8 min read

Lyophilized peptides are stable for a long time in powder form and considerably less stable once solvent is introduced. Everything about good reconstitution technique is a way of protecting that second window.

Work on a clean surface. Swab the stopper. Let the solvent run down the inside wall of the vial rather than dropping directly onto the powder cake, which reduces shear and foaming.

Do not shake. Swirl gently and let the vial rest until the solution is clear. Foam is dissolved gas and mechanical stress, and both are avoidable.

Label the vial with the date and concentration the moment it is reconstituted. Memory is not a storage protocol.
